Lawyers and doctors for human rights is a non-governmental organization that supports civilians during crises and provides help to stop human rights violations and empower people in need to be effective community members.
- POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Justice Advisor, the Justice Officer will be primarily responsible for supporting the justice and human rights work, including but not limited to data entry, data analysis, drafting reports, and responding to external requests from international justice actors. He or she would also assist in the implementation of LDHR’s projects, ensuring transparency and integrity across all program activities.
- RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Under the supervision of the Justice Advisor, support drafting human rights reports about violations committed in conflict areas, as part of broader violations of international humanitarian law and international criminal law.
- Review individual cases of victims and witnesses, containing accounts of gross violations such as torture and sexual and gender-based violence.
- Extract, analyze and enter data from victim and witness accounts using the relevant data entry and data analysis tools.
- Support responding to requests from international justice actors.
- Provide support to the Justice Advisor in the implementation of LDHR’s projects, in areas of documentation, legal advice, timely reporting on justice-related activities, and internal information sharing.
- Facilitate communication with local communities, volunteers, and field personnel.
- Contribute to the routine collection, production, and sharing of lessons learned; to be coordinated between all relevant program departments.
- Translate materials from Arabic to English and vice versa whenever needed.
- Attend the protection cluster meetings and all cluster meetings assigned by Justice Advisor.
- Participate in regular meetings, conferences, and justice-related events and take minutes to ensure information sharing with the Justice Advisor and other team members.
- REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES:
This position demands a dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in law, international relations, political or social science, international development or any related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Work Experience: Minimum of three years of experience, preferably in an INGO/ NGO, in a similar role/with similar responsibilities.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Arabic, English (written & spoken) are ESSENTIAL, and the ability to effectively write reports; Turkish is a plus.
- Other Essential Qualifications and Personal Skills:
- Excellent drafting skills in both English and Arabic.
- Ability to work on very sensitive issues, such as torture and sexual and gender-based violence.
- Professionalism and maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the work.
- Competence with MS Office applications, including good knowledge of Excel.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations while maintaining a calm and positive attitude.
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex activities and exercise sound judgment.
- Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work effectively with people of different cultural contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently.
